We're back - Our 1st outing since February

 

Slowly, and with an abundance of caution we are getting back together for outings and adventures.  Our first group activity was the ropes course at Boundless Adventures.  Many thanks to Tyler S. who planned and organized this event and Tony Abrantes and Barbara Centofanti the parents who made sure everything went smoothly and we had the BSA two-deep leaership on site.

Next up is the September canoe trip and a Trail Medal Hike is in the works for October.

Coral Reef Sailing Adventure 2020

6 Scouts and 2 leaders spent the week aboard the Adventurer a 41 foot Morgan Out Island sloop in the Florida Keys.  Our time was spent sailing, snorkeling coral reefs, and fishing.  In the process, our Scouts got to experience the only coral reefs in North America before they go extinct.  Over the last 20 years, the reefs in Florida have shrunk by 50% with no end in sight.

We got to fish a lot and the Scouts caught hundreds of fish (no fish story) including a massive 30+ inch Grouper.  Sadly the Grouper was out of season and we had to release it instead of making it feed the crew for the week.

We learned about navigation and sailing and put up and hauled in the sails numerous times to power ourselves around the  Keys.

We lived on board the boat for the week anchoring off the coast along the way with a mid-week mooring at John Pennycamp State Park to use the showers, empty the garbage, and use flush toilets.  Most nights we spent sleeping on deck under the stars.

Gore Mountain Ski Trip - 2018

In what may be our last visit to Gore we had the good fortune to hit the mountain after two significant snowfalls in the previous seven days.  By 8:30am Saturday morning, 100% of the mountain was open for skiing.

We stayed in the Log Cabin at Read, where we slept, ate, and rested between ski days.  This year we had to take care of our own cooking which was a step up in quality but required a little more effort from the Scouts which they handled admirably.

The Westchester/Putnam Council has canceled all Winter Activities at Read due to budget problems so we will begin to look for other ideas for next year's Ski Adventure.

Troop Klondike Derby

Flaming Eagles Snow Tube Patrol Outing

Gore Mountain Ski Trip

This year's ski trip to Gore was a blast.  9 Scouts and 5 leaders hit the Mountain both Saturday and Sunday and skied until we were exhausted.

Two Scouts learned to ski and everyone got better.

Even though this winter hasn't been the best for snowfall Gore managed to have enough runs open to interest everyone and the condition were good.

Can't wait for next year.

Climbing at the Cliffs

A little late, but at least it's out and it's still 2015.  Great 2 weekend session at the Cliffs.  The Scouts earned their Clibming merit badge and Hemry and Michael got instruction in Bouldering.
